OHZ Głogówek is the largest center in Poland for the breeding of red-and-white Holstein-Friesian cattle. The company is also a producer of high-quality breeding stock of pigs. The Breeding Center is listed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development as one of the strategic animal breeding companies of particular importance to the national economy, in which the rights arising from shares are exercised by the National Agricultural Support Center.
Cattle Breeding
The main area of activity at the „Głogówek” Breeding Center is the breeding of red-and-white Holstein-Friesian cattle. Our herd consists of 730 cows with a milk yield of over 11,000 kg per cow.
OHZ Głogówek focuses on improving the herd in terms of cow longevity, milking speed and ease, and somatic cell count. To achieve these goals, a mating program is carried out based on conformation and breeding value for milk traits. The selection of bulls for mating with cows and heifers is based on evaluations published by the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Kraków and international bull rankings released three times a year in Europe (Germany, Netherlands, France, Switzerland), the USA, and Canada. Bulls with the best breeding values for conformation traits are used for mating with the cows and heifers exhibiting the most desirable conformation.
Foreign cattle breeding specialists visiting OHZ Głogówek are consistently impressed by the high breeding standards. It is worth noting that breeding red-and-white Holstein-Friesian cattle (RW variant) is more challenging due to their much smaller population compared to the black-and-white variant. Our cows and heifers regularly participate in both national and local exhibitions. Over the years, they have won many championships and distinctions.
Pig Breeding
Another key area of animal production is pig breeding, aiming to achieve high reproductive value and growth rates in maternal breeds, and excellent fattening and slaughter traits, along with high meat quality, in paternal breeds. In 2008, our herd received a Health Certificate from the Polish Association of Pig Breeders and Producers „POLSUS”.
Crop Production
The company manages an area of 2,328 hectares. Crop production is carried out using the latest technological advancements and precision farming. Precision agriculture enables higher quality yields, reduced production costs, and minimized environmental impact.środowiska.
